Yesterday, the Wordpress team announced the release of Wordpress 2.7 RC1! Among other things, many bug has been fixed and its visual interface has been slightly improved (see screenshot below).

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to see a RC version so soon so this makes me feel very excited! We might be getting Wordpress 2.7 official release before Christmas ;)

By the way, this is Rauru’s 100th blog post! What a nice way to start a day! Let’s celebrate, people! ;) :D

Wordpress Popular Posts Has Been Released!

Posted on November 20, 2008, under Web Development.

Some time ago, I developed a Wordpress plugin to showcase the most active entries on my blog and display them on a list - Wordpress Popular Posts.

The idea of developing such a plugin was born due to my need of some extra features that other similar plugins didn’t have. As they say, where there’s a need, there’s also an opportunity - and I took it. Wordpress Popular Posts is the result of that.

After a few weeks of testing, I’ve decided to release it for free so others can use it and maybe suggest a couple of features / improvements to make Wordpress Popular Posts better & more user-friendly - if possible.

Anyways, here’s my plugin: Wordpress Popular Posts. Enjoy!

P.S.: if you liked my plugin, you might want to consider subscribing to my blog to get future releases and news about my blog :D

Wordpress 2.7 Rocks! (at least its Beta does)

Posted on November 10, 2008, under Blogging, Technology.

From past experiences we bloggers have learned that each time Wordpress releases a new version of our beloved blogging platform, they have always managed to find a way to amaze us with some outstanding new features to make our blogging experience an unforgettable one. Each new version of Wordpress has always surpassed its predecessor.

Wordpress 2.7 won’t be the exception!

What’s New on Wordpress 2.7

I must say I’m quite pleased with what I have seen on Wordpress 2.7 Beta 2. Hopefully, most of its current features will remain on the final release of Wordpress 2.7. I bet you’re anxious to see what are the new features, don’t you? :P

Wordpress 2.7 - DashboardWordpress Admin Area a la Facebook!

This is one of my favorite features! Don’t like how your Admin panel looks? Fine. You can rearrange things a la Facebook. Every section has been has been empowered with the drag&drop feature!

A Few Announcements!

Posted on October 9, 2008, under Internet, Web Development.

Hi guys!

As you might have already noticed, there are a few changes around here ;)

Rauru.com changes its looks!

A few weeks ago, I ran a poll regarding the previous theme that was being used at this blog (Zeke - Solostream.com). The question was “What do you think of our new look?”. Over 40% of the voters said that they didn’t like it, and some of them even suggested me to go back to the previous theme. Seeing all this, I decided that it was time to get a better theme.

I don’t know about you guys, but I can be a very picky person sometimes. I’ve seen around 3000+ themes -I found somewhere a .zip file containing around 2400+ !- and didn’t like most of them. There were some nicely crafted ones but there was always some tiny detail that my unforgiving eye couldn’t stand to see. No matter how much I liked it, it always ended up being trashed.

Luckily, one of these themes captivated my heart and now it constitutes the new face of Rauru.com :D

What do you think? Do you like it?

Wordpress Popular Posts Plugin is out there!

Well… not really xD For some time, I’ve been wanting to develop a Wordpress plugin just for fun. Drived by this desire of mine, I wrote a plugin that allows me now to display a list of the most popular posts here at my blog.

Wordpress Popular Posts Plugin is highly configurable. With it, I can:

  • Set a custom title to the list or use the default one (”Popular Posts”).
  • Set how many items I want to display on the list.
  • Show / hide comments count of each post.
  • Show only an excerpt of titles / Show full text of titles.
  • If the Excerpt option is enabled, I can set a limit of maximum characters to be displayed by the excerpt.

Why did I write this plugin, anyway? Well, I checked a couple of similar plugins at Wordpress.org but none of them seemed to be as flexible as I wanted - so I ended up coding my own.

I’m not planning to release this plugin to the public, at least not yet. I might, however, release a private version for my subscribers. I’ll decide on that later.

Anyways, that’s all for the time being. Please remember to leave your comments about the new layout of Rauru.com! Your feedback would be highly appreciated and is important for me :)

I Won the Brand-New Feeling Blogging Event!

Posted on September 9, 2008, under Blogging, Contests.

Hey guys,

A few days ago, I found out about this little nice event running at Successful-blog by Liz Strauss. This event consisted in submitting any picture that reminded you of the brand-new feeling that goes with your first blog post. The event would end with the 50th accepted entry or by September 14th, whichever would come first.

Thinking of my own blogging experiences, I decided to write about what I felt the first time I blogged (Do You Remember Your First Blog Post?) and got some nice responses from some of my regular readers (thank you guys!). When I started writing that entry, I was focused on promoting this event in order to give it more exposure -it really caught my attention!- but I kept writing and writing and ended up sharing my thoughts of what blogging is and totally had forgotten to talk about the Brand-new Blogging Event which was what I had in mind in the first place -I swear I did!-.

Anyways, apparently the 50th entry came in first so the event is over and winners have been announced - and I’m one of them! :D To be honest, I did not enter this competition (?) thinking of getting something from it but willing to have fun and learn what others had to share about blogging. I felt quite surprised to see my name on the list! These are the prizes I won:

EDGE - Wordpress Premium Theme

The Secret of Writing a Successful and Outstanding Blog

Cool, huh? :D

I haven’t decided on using this Wordpress theme yet. The current one is fairly new and I’m getting used to it so EDGE will -probably- have to wait :P About the ebook, well Liz is a great writer so I have high expectations from it :) Every new knowledge is valuable to me so I’m sure I’ll make the most out of it.

What do you think?
