Traffic Building - For the Total Newbie
Posted on July 8, 2008, under Internet, SEO, Web Development by Ikki.
Hi guys,
Today we’re going to discuss about some effective Traffic Building techniques to increase your site’s visibility and build some backlinks in the process
(P. S.: this article is intended for the total newbies so don’t expect to find any advanced, NASA-like traffic building tactiques! xD)
Why do I need to get more traffic to my sites?
Whilst this may appear a stupid question, it is not. Most starting webmasters don’t know or are not fully aware of the importance of stimulating your traffic. They just expect people to visit their sites out of nowhere. A romantic idea, yes, but unfortunately things don’t work that way.
Working on building your traffic is important for several reasons. I’ll mention just some of them:
- You and your site will gain more exposure, more Branding. The purpose of branding is to get people to remember your site easily. Branding leads to lasting loyal readership.
- Interacting with your visitors will increase your experience, thus you’ll be granted Authority.
- High traffic = business oportunities. If your site is generating some decent traffic, business oportunities will come knock your door. Chances of getting more Revenue from your site flows side by side with your traffic.
How can I get more Traffic to my sites?
Building lasting, quality traffic is a day to day task. This is not a do-once-and-forget-about-it kind of stuff. Consistency is important so you need to put all your creativity and efforts here.
Here are some suggestions for building quality traffic for your sites:
- Write Valuable Stuff: feed your visitors with articles they want to read. Share with them some valuable knowledges fo yours. Give away some of your best experiences. Steve Pavlina from stevepavlina.com said “Strong content is universally valued. It’s hard work to create it, but in the long run it generates lots of long-term referral traffic.”
- Article Marketing: submiting your articles to external sites (Guest Posting, Article Directories, etc) is a great way to promote yourself and to grow the readership of your own sites.
- Commenting Rocks!: comments can be a powerful weapon. It can get you not only traffic but also will stimulate the interaction between you and the blogosphere. However, if your comments don’t add value and are not relevant to the post / thread you’ll just end up hurting your reputation badly.
- Ride the Social Bookmarking Wave: submit your articles to Social Bookmarking Sites. They drive a lot of traffic and can get you some backlinks!
- Freebies, freebies!: it’s a known fact that people love free stuff so why not start a contest on your own? Giving stuff away can help you build loyalty among your readership. However, there are some guidelines you must follow to prevent any disaster when running a contest for the first time :P
- Be different: Let the people know the real you. I know that you love the way I write (that’s why you keep coming back, don’t you? :P), I’m sure your readers will love your style too
Add a bit of your spice to your articles!
Final words
I cannot guarantee that these techniques will work for everyone. You have to add your own creativity and be consistent in order to make the most of out them. Building and mantaining a high traffic isn’t easy so you have to give the best of yourself to succeed!
So, what do you think? Have these tips helped you to grow your readership?
